The story behind Tom's Planner

Thomas Ummels had been working as a project manager for 6 years when he decided to quit his job and become a web developer. One of the things that bothered him as a project manager was the often frustrating business process of making Gantt Charts in spreadsheets. He decided to try and develop a first and basic version of a tool that would do a better job.

When it was finished, some former project manager friends and colleagues were so enthusiastic that they wanted to use it too. Because all his friends call him Tom, the tool soon became nicknamed Tom's Planner.

Tom brainstormed for a month in Florence, followed by months and months of brain crunching in Amsterdam, and in November 2009 the first public beta version of Tom's Planner emerged! After more than 25 thousand people signed up in less than 9 months Tom and his team launched the first official version of Tom's Planner in August 2010.

Thanks to our loyal user base, who continuously help in finding ways to fine tune the tool, Tom's Planner is truly a tool built for and by project managers. We will keep listening to your suggestions and adding features that will enhance Tom'sPlanner while still keeping it as user-friendly as possible.
