What is Tom's Planner

Tom's Planner is an easy-to-use web based planning application that enables anyone to create and share Gantt Charts online with "drag and drop" simplicity. We're willing to bet you'll get the hang of Tom's Planner quickly if you try it for just two minutes.

Why Tom's Planner

There are currently two challenges confronting project managers who use mainstream project management applications:

1. They target professional project planners and are often far too complex for the average user. The mere existence of a book like "MS Project 2007 Survival Guide, The Go-to Resource for Stumped and Struggling New Users", basically says it all.
2. Most modern project management applications tend to cover all major aspects of project management at once. As a result, users are forced to completely adapt the way they work to the flow and procedures of these types of applications.

These are the main reasons you'll find a lot of project managers trying to create and maintain Gantt Charts through spreadsheets. Ask around though and they'll tell you: spreadsheets are not designed for creating Gantt Charts. They're inefficient, time consuming and lead to an average result at best.

It's 2010 and there is still no simple and easy way to quickly create a visually attractive Gantt Chart - until now!

How and why Tom's Planner is innovative

Tom's Planner solves this problem by focusing only on Gantt Charts and approaches the process of Gantt Chart creation in an innovative way.

OLD: Traditional applications force you to create your Gantt Chart indirectly by setting up an abstract framework of activities, dependencies and restrictions. This abstract framework is then automatically translated into a Gantt Chart. If you want to make changes you have to go back to your abstract framework.

NEW: Tom's Planner might be best described as an easy-to-use drawing program for Gantt Charts. It enables you to instantly visualize your thoughts directly on the screen with simple mouse clicks and "drag and drop" actions. You will be surprised to see how time efficient and easy to learn this new approach to creating Gantt Charts is.

Who uses Tom's Planner

Tom's Planner can be used by a wide variety of people: from government workers, consultants, conference and wedding planners to contractors, students, busy soccer moms or family reunion organizers. As long as you understand the structure of your project or event, Tom's Planner is the easiest and quickest way to express your ideas and thoughts.

Even if you're working for NASA planning the next mission to the moon, you could always start planning with Tom's Planner and export your schedule to MS Project when it gets too complex.

What's next for Tom's Planner

We'll continue to improve the application. Eventually Tom's Planner will become a paid service. Personal accounts will likely remain free (one schedule only) and we'll charge a small, reasonable annual fee per user for corporate accounts (unlimited number of schedules).
